The 3rd annual Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competition
(WLSC2006) concluded on September 22nd. I think all
who attended would agree that it was a phenomenal
event!!
Almost 500 entrants submitted their songs to the WLSC2006
for the 1st Round. One hundred and fifty contestants
were chosen to perform in the “Live” competition
-- 2nd Round. The second round was comprised of six
consecutive nights each on which 25 different contestants
performed their songs (totaling 150). On each night
three contestants were chosen by a panel of industry
judges to go on to the semi-finals for a total of
18 semi-finalists. At the semi-finals, the pool was
narrowed down to 9, to play the finals on the last
of eight consecutive nights.

Tom
Rhodes hosted the 2006 Williamsburg Live Songwriter
Competition. A Virginia-native, Tom moved
to New York in 2003 and established himself as a top
songwriter and performer on the New York independent
music scene. Tom’s songs skillfully blend soulful
rock with alt-country and possess unpretentious wisdom-laden
stories and metaphors. Put these together with his
exceedingly strong live performance skills and the
final product is formidable. His contribution to the
antics and touring of the legendary Whiskey Breath
night, and Whiskey Breath travelers is infamous. Now
hiding away in his native land, working on his next
CD, Tom will be back to host the the WLSC2006.
The WLSC included judges from the following
companies: Atlantic Records, BMI, NY Press,
The Deli, TimeOut NY, TVT Records, CAA, Tijuana Gift
Shop, Island/Def Jam, CO-ED Magazine, ASCAP, Rockpile,
Zomba Music, EastWest, Bar/None Records, Mastermind
Artist Management, Say Hi To Your Mom, Gold Streets,
The Leaf Label
